A feasibility study was undertaken in 2014 funded by Gravida National Centre for Growth and Development and RANZCOG Mercia Barnes Trust. A multidisciplinary New Zealand-wide advisory group was convened to assess the feasibility for a maternal and perinatal Clinical Trials Network (CTN) in New Zealand.
The feasibility study was designed to engage with all perinatal medicine related centres within New Zealand to identify past and current involvement in clinical research, research interests, potential research capabilities and barriers/enhancers for a CTN. The study was also designed to scope out models of successful CTNs.
The study provided a strong impetus to proceed with the establishment of an investigator-initiated and led national network for multicentre randomized controlled trials in maternal and perinatal health.
